I recently started learning how to draw Zentangles, I was just playing around with doodle art and realised that there could be something more I could do, then I saw Zentangles and Mandalas, which are great fun. It’s like learning how to draw all over again with pen, its been so long.
So I’ve been trying to learn the different between Doodles Zentangles and Mandala art.
What are Zentangles
Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art created through a very specific Method from an ensemble of simple, structured patterns called tangles on a 3.5-inch (89 mm) square paper tile. Zentangles are not only exquisitely beautiful, they are fun and relaxing to create.

What is Mandala Art
A mandala) is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Indian religions, representing the universe. In common use, “mandala” has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe.

What is Doodle Art
Mandala drawings and Zentagles are drawings that need a lot of concentration – A doodle is a drawing that we usually do while we are not concentrating, and its often strange to see what we have created without thinking.
Drawing Mandala, Zentangle or Doodles
So this is one of my first Mandala drawings, I’m hoping to get more control so that the lines are stronger and straighter, I’ve not been using any tools so far as I felt that it would distract from the flow and felt it was cheating really but I’ve seen people using protractors and compasses and marking lines out and the results look great – so I’m going to see if I enjoy drawing that way too.
And this is the finished drawing – I need to get lighting sorted out or scan these in I think
